Johnnie Lee Savory. Fighting on.

Although the lawyers succeeded in obtaining Savory's release on parole on December 19, 2006, on-going efforts to obtain DNA testing through the courts have not succeeded. With those remedies exhausted, Savory's only hope of proving his innocence lies with Governor Blagojevich before whom a petition for executive clemency based on innocence is pending.

Johnnie Lee Savory, 45, spent two-thirds of his life behind bars for a double murder that he says DNA testing can prove he did not commit.

The trouble is that, even though Illinois law guarantees the right to DNA testing when it is relevant to a claim of actual innocence, the courts have denied that right in Savory's case.

As a result, Savory is asking Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to order the testing, which would be paid for privately, at no cost to the taxpayers.

We all know what happened to Blago.  Grin Looking at the web search it took from the time Blago was sentenced and removed from office to early this year for Johnny Lee Savory to get his precious test. How can justice be any different? It seems the current Illinois Governor (the guy that came in after Blago) did not want any political blowback on his head. (Though see the below link that shows up shows some more good news over that jail time) Remember what happened to Blago could someday happen to any Governor, even a moron like Tom Corbett.

Johnny was freed according to my web search over five years ago since he was thankfully given parole. As I said, the current Governor commuted the remainder of the man's prison sentence. The only thing he needs is to prove that he was 100% innocent, perhaps to bring the real killer to justice. Blago's removal in 2009 delayed his justice by over three years.

No decision yet on Savory's request to reopen murder case

Vote "yes" in this online poll and support Johnnie Lee! State's Attorney Jerry Brady will be making his decision by the end of the month!

JOHNNIE LEE SAVOR

Advanced DNA Testing Sought in Effort to Clear Johnnie Lee Savory

Wrongful Convictions lawyers filed an expansive motion in the Circuit Court of Peoria County requesting advanced DNA testing that they contend can prove that Johnnie Lee Savory did not commit a 1977 double murder for which he spent more than two-thirds of his life behind bars—from age 14 to age 44—before he was released on parole in 2006.
