When a person is shot with a shotgun it results in what is forensically known as high velocity impact blood spatter. It is important to note that blood spatter travels in somewhat counter-intuitive directions.

"Spatter from an entrance wound is referred to as back spatter; the blood droplets travel opposite to the direction of the projectile toward the weapon and the shooter" (Eckert, 1997, p. 186).

This means that if someone places a shotgun up against another person and shoots them, blood with spatter back onto the person and the gun as a result of the force of the weapon. The size of the blood droplets are small and may look like this, as shown in Eckert's book on forensic sciences:

Here is a description of high velocity blood spatter and its relevance in forensic investigations:

Jordan Brown's clothing did not contain blood spatter. The shotgun obtained from his bedroom did not contain evidence of blood either. Blood spatter of some kind would be expected on at least the gun, but most likely the shooter as well, because it travels at least 3-to-4 feet.

Nice.

I found this while trying to find something out about a 20 gauge shotgun. It has images of a person who shot in the back of the head by one and the exit wound in the front. (beware)

Kenzie had an open casket and there was no post-mortem face reconstruction.

Is there police or court documentation which states the absence of blood splatter?

If you review the court documents pertaining to Jordan posted on this site you will see that there is nothing in them referencing any type of blood on him, his clothes, or on the shotgun found in his room. If there had been blood they would have brought this up in the preliminary hearing. I have been told separately there was no blood. As far as blood spatter on the walls and in the location where she was actually shot...that I don't know. I don't know what the scene looked like at all.

There was an interesting comment left on Jordan's petition today regarding blowback spatter. I am copying and pasting it here.

"Norm Seavey
Based on what I've read and knowledge of firearms for over 40 years with also working for Harrington & Richardson's Gun Manufacturer in Gardner Massachusetts for over 6 years till they closed the plant and used to test fire all types of guns from shotguns, rifles and hand guns, you get blow back residue on your clothing, both hands, face, hair, shoes, not just a particle or two, This does not wash here and there is no way anyone cannot walk away from a crime scene with that much blood splatter without having it on their pants, shirt and shoes. This has all the earmarks of a botched investigation from the very beginning and a cover up to make the police dept look good in front of the media & public and this happens more than one might think anywhere in the world today. And, not testing the hands of the alleged perpetrator for power residue is a sure sign negligence on the part of the chief detective in charge of the investigation. There is no factual evidence here based on all that I have read about the child to hold him, he needs to be released immediately in his own recognises and as slim as it seems today there is still evidence at that house where the crime took place that will lead the police to the real perpetrator of this homicide,if you can find competent police to reopen this case and handle the investigation properly. There's a real live murderer still walking around free while an innocent child takes his place, Do the right thing here people, release the child today, You have the wrong person in custody and by the way, consult with the neighborhood residents as it appears they forgot that one, no small wonder here ,Norm Seavey, Gardner,Ma

It seems to me that this absence of blood spatter worked for the benefit of the real killer and not the one arrested. Which begs the question: why use a different gun to mimic the dynamics of a shotgun? It has not been used in recent memory the MO in other murder cases and I read a lot and seen plenty of crime scene photos and diagrams and forensic reports to know no other doer would even use this method.

Why use a handgun instead of the shotgun in Jordan's bedroom?

For one thing, the doer knows about the big mess that a shotgun makes from close range. Another thing is the the doer wanted to send a sign to someone through the use of this unusual choice. It had to be a close range shot to have been fatal. The pellets coming out of the barrel of this gun would travel differently than an conventional shotgun. There could be a possibility that the gun itself was a custom job much like the round. The gun that killed Kenzie and her fetus would be a single-shot handgun, much like a souped-up derringer, alas one that can fire a single shotgun shell or maybe a conventional handgun round with shotgun stuffing inside and tapered at the end. Though a revolver would be easy, a homemade weapon would be hard but untraceable due to its ability to mimic other guns.

Oh well just another thought... since a shotgun wound would have a different wound track than anything else, it would be so simple to rule out a shotgun. Someone went through with this with malace afterthought. As I said, they had the best luck to live in a county where the forensic people would be either morons or misguided flaming douchebags!

Now if one one can look deeper into all of Russell Noga's other forensic jobs over his entire career, one can see patterens of mistakes. How many of those mistakes either put the wrong pewrson in jail or the let the crook walk free? No lab person in their right mind would misidentify a murder weapon, much less a wound on a corpse. He definately had! No one would make that mistake unless they had no experience with wound atterns or he simply did not care about the truth once Jordan was in jail.

Now the murder happened on a Friday. Jordan was arrested in the early morning hours of Saturday morning. Depending on when Kenzie's body was put in the coroner's assighned car to transport up to New Castle, it would had been on ice for over twelve to fifteen hours up to the arrest of the boy. So when Noga and friends went back to work on the corse on Saturday morning it would be with the knowledge that the boy was arrested. So that was the morning he might have disected the wound and found that something was just not there! A lack of more than 26 birdshot pellets inside the wound. Right there he could have picked up the phone and called the lead detective, telling him of this. My guess is the lead dectective was cocky
after the arrest that no lack of details would convience him that Jordan was not the killer. So after that exchange, Noga had no choice but to go along with the conspiracy. Not only was he incompitant, he is a total wimp not to use his power to lay down the law on the lead detective. Had not the arrest occur that fast, I am quite sure, Noga would have at least been good enough to surmise that the boy did not do it. Just plain "power drunkness" on part of the State Police caused this absence of blood splatter! Or any thing else... Sad
